Rage Against the Machine is the eponymous debut studio anthology past American rock band Rage Confronting the Machine,[iii] released on November 3, 1992 by Epic Records. The ring released their demo album, also called Rage Against the Auto 11 months prior which independent earlier recordings of seven of the 12 songs found on this album. With politically themed lyrical content, the album artwork was notable for featuring a graphic photo of Thích Quảng Đức performing self-immolation. Rage Against the Machine was a disquisitional success upon release with several critics noting the album's politically motivated calendar and praising Zack de la Rocha's potent song delivery. Rated number 24 on the Rolling Rock's list of "100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time", the album peaked at number one on the US Billboard Heatseekers chart and number 45 on the United states Billboard 200 and has gone on to achieve triple platinum sales certification in the Usa.

Artwork and sleeve notes [edit]

The cover features a crop of Malcolm Browne' famous photograph of the self-immolation of Thích Quảng Đức, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, in Saigon in 1963. The monk was protesting President Ngô Đình Diệm's administration for oppressing the Buddhist religion. The photograph drew international attention and persuaded U.Due south. President John F. Kennedy to withdraw support for Diệm's regime. In 1963, Associated Printing correspondent Browne's coverage of the event earned the Globe Press Photo of the Yr honor.

The songs on Rage Against the Motorcar all feature political messages. Activists such equally Conditional IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands and Blackness Panther Political party founder Huey P. Newton are listed in the "Thank you For Inspiration" department. Likewise thanked were Ian and Alec MacKaye.[four]

The lyrics for each vocal were printed in the album booklet with the exception of those for "Killing in the Proper name", which were omitted; the booklet reads "2. KILLING IN THE Proper noun", skips the lyrics and continues with the next vocal.

The argument "no samples, keyboards or synthesizers used in the making of this record" tin can be found at the end of the sleeve notes. Similar statements were fabricated in the band's subsequent albums. The ring also refer to themselves as "Guilty Parties" for each album.

Bout [edit]

The album was supported past the Rage Against the Car Tour, which commenced in early 1993 and concluded on December 31, 1993.[v]

XX 20th Anniversary Edition [edit]

The band announced on Oct nine, 2012, via their Facebook page that they would be releasing a special 20th anniversary boxset to commemorate the grouping's debut anthology. The boxset contains never-before-released concert material, including the ring's 2010 Finsbury Park show and footage from early on in their career, every bit well as a digitally-remastered version of the album, b-sides and the original demo tape (on disc for the first time).[6] [seven] The collection was released on November 27, 2012.[7]

The release features three distinct versions:

  • Palatial Box Set featuring two CDs, two DVDs, one 12" 180gm vinyl LP, one 40 page booklet and two-sided poster

Rage Against the Machine received critical acclaim. Robert Christgau was somewhat less impressed in The Village Phonation, summing information technology up as "metal for rap-lovers—and opera-haters" while naming "Know Your Enemy" and "Wake Up" equally highlights.[19] AllMusic reviewer Eduardo Rivadavia wrote in a retrospective review, "it was the first album to successfully merge the seemingly disparate sounds of rap and heavy metal", he also praised the album'south "meaningful rhymes and emotionally charged confidence" calling it "essential".[9]
